WES BROWN MAKES SUNDERLAND SWITCH

Sunderland has completed the signing of Manchester United defender Wes Brown on a four-year deal.

The 31-year-old England international has joined the Black Cats for a transfer fee understood to be in the region of £1million.

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce said: "We are delighted to welcome a player of Wes' ability, experience and character to the club.

"He has been a fantastic professional for Manchester United through the years and not only will he strengthen our defensive options, he will also bring with him a winning mentality and level of maturity which can only be positive for the players around him."

Brown is Bruce's seventh summer signing after Ahmed Elmohamady , Connor Wickham , Craig Gardner , Ji Dong-won , Keiren Westwood and Sebastian Larsson , and is unlikely to be the last with O'Shea and Blackpool midfielder David Vaughan also close to agreeing deals.

The versatile defender made senior 361 appearances for United over 15 years as a professional having joining the club as a 12-year-old. He has won five Premier League winners' medals and two Champions League medals.

Brown won 23 England caps before announcing his retirement from the international game last summer.

A central defender by profession, he can also play at right-back and with O'Shea equally comfortable across the back four as well as in midfield, Bruce could have healthy options at the back next season.

UNITED KEEN ON MOUSSA SISSOKO

English Champions Manchester United are interested in snapping up Toulouse midfielder Moussa Sissoko, despite interest from Arsenal, Liverpool and Mancheter City.

The 21-year-old is one of the hottest property in Europe. But he has played trice for his country despite making his debut two years ago.

However, his ambitions are high, and Sissoko plans to make a move to England after eight long years at French League 1 side Toulouse.

He nearly joined London Club Spurs two years ago, but a move broke down as both clubs failed to come to an agreement about his transfer value.

Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to strengthen his midfield, after losing Paul Scholes to retirement, Owen Hargreaves, and possibly Darron Gibson is on his way to Sunderland.

United are expected to bid around £7 million to bring Sissoko to Old Trafford.
