Lindegaard chafing for Manchester United spot

Goal keeper Anders Lindegaard has restated he is not at Manchester United to 'pick his nose' after enjoying his UEFA Champions League debut against Benfica.

The goalkeeper joined English champions from Aalesunds in the January transfer window and made two appearances in the FA Cup last season.

He has been providing the back-up to summer signing David de Gea in the Premier League so far this campaign, but was given a chance in Wednesday's game away to Benfica.

Lindegaard impressed in the 1-1 draw in the Stadium of light and is determined to push The Spaniard all the way to be Sir Alex Ferguson's first choice between the posts.

"I have said one thousand times before - I am not here to pick my nose," said Lindegaard.

"Although I came from a small team in Norway called Aalesunds, I am here because I want to play, not because I want to sit on the bench."

The Denmark international was beaten by Oscar Cardozo's first-half strike, but produced a couple of important saves in the second half.

He added: "I am satisfied with my own performance.

"I am a bit sad that I didn't save the first goal as I touched it with my fingertips. It would have been a great save, but apart from that I was satisfied with my performance.

"I had great fun and that is the most important part of why I play football. I enjoyed it very much and it was a great night.

"It is a great stadium to play in with a very loud audience. I could also hear our fans which was nice. This is why I came to United. To play in these kind of games."

Capello: Give Gasperini more time

England boss Fabio Capello has played down a move to Italian giants Inter Milan while urging them to give Gian Piero Gasperini more time to turn things around.

Capello was one of the favorites for the job at the San Siro following the departure of Leonardo in the summer.

And he is now back in the frame for the job as pressure mounts on new Inter manager Gasperini, who has suffered three defeats out of three including the shock 1-0 defeat to Trabzonspor in the Champions League.

Capello has instead advised the Nerazzurri to have faith in Gasperini and gave his take on the Serie A title race.

"Inter do not need me. Let us give the Coach time to do his work," he was quoted as saying in Football Italia.

"The Scudetto is between Milan, Juventus, Inter and Napoli. The Partenopei are doing very well and played a great game in the Champions League.

"Don't forget a draw away to Manchester City is a wonderful result, because I consider City to be without doubt among the strongest sides in Europe at the moment."

The Italian was also impressed with Udinese despite the Italian side failing to qualify for the Champions League after a play-off defeat to the Gunners.

"I saw both their games against Arsenal, both home and away. They did very well, but were not lucky and I know in football you need a bit of good fortune.

"Udinese have a fine Coach, the right mentality and a club that pays attention. As a manager, I know how important it is to have a strong club behind you."

Fulham keen to sign Algerian Halliche

Reports in the UK suggest that Fulham have applied to the Premier League for special exemption to add Rafik Halliche to their squad.
The Algeria international was set to join recently-promoted Swansea but it was confirmed on Thursday that their loan deal has been vetoed by FIFA.
Halliche and Daniel Situ both agreed moves to south Wales club but had international clearance rejected by football's world governing body after minor delays in processing the transfers.
With the deadline day transfers falling through, the London club are now seeking to add Halliche to their Premier League squad.
Fulham only registered 23 out of the 25 players allowed and Press Association Sport understands they have contacted the Premier League to request the Algerian's addition.
However, The Cottager’s application will depend on whether Swansea successfully appeal FIFA's decision.
The Swans are awaiting written authentication from the governing body before deciding whether to appeal the decision, which came despite the Premier League, the Football Association of Wales, the Football Association, the French Football Federation and the Professional Footballers' Association all fighting their corner.
