Bolton sign Eagles, Mears

Bolton Wanderers have completed the signings of Chris Eagles and Tyrone Mears from Championship side Burnley.

Midfielder Eagles and defender Mears have both agreed three-year contracts with The Trotters, which reunites them with Owen Coyle.

"Both Chris and Tyrone are top players and have shown that they have the ability to compete successfully at the highest level," said manager Owen Coyle.

"I have worked with them both before and know what they will bring to the club in terms of character and commitment and along with Nigel Reo-Coker, we have added real quality to the squad."

The Burnley pair become Coyle's third and fourth signings of the summer after the arrivals of Darren Pratley and Astonvilla midfielder Reo-Coker.

"I know that it is a good squad so the challenge for me will be to work hard and then look to contribute," said Eagles.

"I am an attacking midfielder and I will certainly be looking to chip in with some goals."

Mears added: "I'm really looking forward to working with a manager I've worked with before and playing in the Premier League.

"From the outside looking in, this has seemed like it is a club going in the right direction.

"It wasn't a difficult decision at all. I know exactly what the manager expects from his players and I'm more than ready for it."

Abou Diaby out of action for 10 weeks

Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby has undergone an ankle surgery and will be out of action for up to 10 weeks, Gunners boss Arsene Wenger confirmed on Friday.

The France international was suffering from a joint problem towards the end of last season and it forced him out of the pre-season tour of Asia and the club's training camp in Germany.

Diaby is likely to be out of action until September, so he will miss the Barclays Premier League games against Newcastle, Liverpool and Manchester United, as well as the Champions League play-off.

"Abou had ankle surgery during the break," Wenger told Arsenal.com.

"Normally he should be back eight to 10 weeks after his surgery, which means the end of August."

Diaby's absence will come as a huge blow for Wenger, who is short of options in central midfield having allowed Denilson to leave for Sao Paulo on loan while doubt continues to surround the future of captain Cesc Fabregas, who remains a long-term target for European champions Barcelona.
