Inter confirm Jonathan signing

Inter Milan have confirmed the signing of Brazilian defender Jonathan from Santos.

The 25-year-old had been training with Inter this week ahead of making his permanent move to the Serie A giants.

Jonathan joins the club for an undisclosed fee and has signed a four-year contract with the Nerazzurri team.

"Jonathan has signed a contract with Inter until June 30, 2015," the club announced.

The South American player helped Santos win the Copa Libertadores earlier this year.

Coentrao keen to repay Real Madrid

Real Madrid's 30 million euro new boy Fabio Coentrao is resolute to show he is worth every cent of his huge transfer fee.

The Portugal wing-back was signed by Real from Benfica earlier this month and has now joined up with his new team-mates at their training camp in Los Angeles.

Coentrao cost 50million euros less than international team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo but nevertheless feels he has something to prove.

He told Diario AS: "I always hear about the 30million...they say it's expensive, but I cannot answer this question. Time will tell. I have the certainty that I have the quality and I want to show everyone why they paid 30million.

"I have to prove to everyone that I have the qualities to be here. I am certain that I will respond in the future to this question and that it was worth paying the money for me."

Coentrao revealed he had received a warm welcome from his new team-mates.

"It's a fantastic group. I am feeling well, and not just because of the Portuguese and Brazilians here," he added.

"I feel great in this group. It is a fantastic club and a team with high quality. I am proud to be here, but I have to work hard from now."

Downing joins Liverpool

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Stewart Downing from Aston Villa.

The 26 year-old becomes Kenny Dalglish’s fourth summer signing after Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and Goal keeper Alexander Doni.

Aston Villa confirmed that Downing had submitted a formal transfer request and he travelled to Liverpool to discuss terms and completed a medical before signing a long term deal at the club.

Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli told ”I am very pleased. It has been a long process and long negotiation, but we have reached an agreement with Aston villa and the player has signed for us ”

"We are delighted. It's difficult to say he was our No.1 target because all of our targets are our No.1 target.

"We did not prioritise on who we wanted to sign first, but we needed that pace and wide player that can bring us something extra, which we did not have in the squad.

"He has the right mentality, the right attitude and was absolutely committed to coming to us, so we are delighted."
