Premier League bottom floaters Wolverhampton have sacked manager Mick McCarthy following a terrible run of results including 5-1 home mauling against West Brom on Sunday.
McCarthy had been in charge of Wolves for five-and-a-half years but the club Faithfull’s had started to lose faith in him with the club having won just five of their 25 Premier League games this campaign.
A statement on the club's official website said: The board took the tricky decision to end Mick's contract after a run of form which has seen Wolves pick up just 14 points in the last 22 league games.
"Terry Connor will take charge of team training in the interim until a new manager is appointed.
"The board would like to place on record their sincere thanks and appreciation to Mick and he leaves with the very best wishes of everyone connected to the club."
Wolverhampton are currently 18th in the Premier League and have emerged triumphant just once in their last 11 league matches.
Speaking after the defeat against West Brom, McCarthy said: "I apologies for the performance and I've never done that before in 20 years of management.
"But I feel it's warranted, we were awful in the last half an hour.
"It was my most difficult day as a manager. We capitulated which is not something associated with me or my teams."
Alan Curbishley, former Sunderland boss Steve Bruce and Neil Warnock are all in the contention to replace McCarthy at Molineux.
