Lazio expect big things from signings

Lazio president Claudio Lotito believes new comers Miroslav Klose and Djibril Cisse will return the club to the top of Italian football.

It has been over ten years since Lazio last lifted the Scudetto, but Lotito is in confident mood ahead of the coming season following the signing of his two new strikers.

"They can help bring Lazio back to the top level in Italy and Europe. With Cisse and Klose in attack, Lazio will go far," Lotito was quoted as saying by Il Corriere dello Sport.

"We have signed Klose and Cisse, hoping they will be decisive in terms of physique, quality, character and experience.

"I appreciate Klose's moral qualities, as he is a very professional figure who will give this team a step up in quality.

"I have to thank Cisse, as he had other offers, but firmly wanted to join Lazio.

"He wishes to prove his worth in Serie A after recovering from two very serious injuries. He has great strength of character."

Lazio finished fifth in Serie A last season and will play in next season's Europa League.

Gunners capture Joel Campbell

Arsenal have reached an agreement which will see highly-rated Costa Rica striker Joel Campbell.

Campbell has made just three senior appearances for Deporivo Saprissa, one of Costa Rica's top clubs, but he is already on the radar of top European clubs.

He netted his first international goal in a 5-0 victory over Cuba at the Gold Cup and followed that up with an assist in a 2-0 victory over Bolivia at the Copa America.

Arsenal have moved quickly to see off the competition for his signature and have a $1.5million (£930,000) deal in place.

President of Deporivo Juan Carlos Rojas confirmed the agreement to DNA Radio and said the transfer would be 'very beneficial to both Campbell and Costa Rican football'.

It is expected that Arsenal will then send him out on loan as he has not played in 75 per cent of Costa Rica's games.

He is, however, considered to be an exciting prospect for the future and Arsenal have seen off interest from Italy and Spain in securing his services.

Manchester City accept Tevez Corinthians bid

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has confirmed that the club have accepted Corinthians' bid for striker Carlos Tevez.

City turned down a £40million bid from the Brazilian club last week, with City believed to be holding out for £50million for Tevez .

However, speaking on the club's pre-season tour of North America, Mancini told "We have an agreement with Corinthians but Carlos now is still a City player."

Gunners' complete Gervinho signing

Arsenal have completed the signing of striker Gervinho from French Champions Lille for an undisclosed fee.

The Gunners announced last week a deal had been agreed for the Ivory Coast international and the paperwork has now been approved and Gervinho signed a long-term contract.

The 24-year-old told Arsenal official website "It's a great feeling to be an Arsenal player. I'm very happy. I've always dreamed to play for this club. I've achieved this dream now and I am so happy. It's one of the most beautiful days of my life."

Gervinho cited Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger as a key reason in his decision to move to London, adding: "I'm very happy to have the chance to work with Arsene Wenger.

"I came here because I believe that he can improve my game and help me reach another level, but the most important thing for me is that I bring a lot to the team for whom I'm playing."

The striker played a vital role in Lille's Ligue 1 and Coupe de France double last season, scoring 18 goals in all competitions.

Gervinho also began his career with ASEC Mimosas in Abidjan like Premier League stars Kolo Toure, Yaya Toure, Salomon Kalou and Arsenal's Emmanuel Eboue.

Wenger was attracted by his versatility, and told "Gervinho is a player that can play in a number of positions up front. He can play on the right, on the left and through the middle.

"He has qualities that I find very important, like his movement off the ball. He has the qualities we like technically.

"He is good one against one, he is strong and was the best provider in the French league with assists and he scored 15 goals. I think he is a very good addition to the squad."

Gervinho will join up with his new team-mates for pre-season training in Asia.

Gervinho has scored 6 times for Ivory coast in 27 appearance.
