Khedira suffers metatarsal injury

Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has sustained a metatarsal injury on his fifth right toe. As a result it, the former Stuttgart man was forced to pull out from a training session just before its completion.

His condition was monitored at the Ronald Reagan Medical Center in Los Angeles and more tests will be conducted on Wednesday afternoon to confirm the extent of the injury.

The 24 year-old will now miss Wednesday morning's trip to San Diego to face Mexican side Chivas de Guadalajara in a pre-season friendly.

The German international's first season at Madrid was hindered by a string of niggly injuries which limited to 25 La Liga games and manager Jose Mourinho will be hoping this latest setback is not a bad sign for the coming season.
