WEGNER LINES UP £12M BID FOR WOLVES STRIKER

Arsene Wenger is finally ready to splash the cash this summer - in the form of Wolves striker Kevin Doyle.

The Arsenal boss is gearing up for the departures of key players such as Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri, Nicolas Bendtner and Gael Clichy. Now according to reports, Wenger has earmarked Doyle as his major summer target and will be lining up a £12million bid for the 27-year-old.

Wenger sees next season as the start of a new era at the Emirates and showing interest in British players Gary Cahill, Scott Parker and Doyle.

The Frenchman has been a long-time admirer of Doyle, whose burst into the international scene during Ireland's World Cup play-off with France.

The striker's outstanding workrate is an attribute that Wenger believes will stand the Gunners in good stead next season, where they look to finally end their trophy drought.

But prising the Irishman to the Emirates poses some barriers as Doyle is half-way through a four-year contract and Wolves will not be letting him go on the cheap.

Molineux chairman Steve Morgan was saying: "I'm sure we'll have those conversations with Kevin and his agent at the right time.

"Kevin has been a fantastic signing for this club and is a really, really key player for us. We'd like to secure his services going forward."

McCarthy has previously insisted it will take an offer of £50m to induce him to part with Doyle and will be determined to fight off Wenger's interest.
