Benfica have confirmed the signing of Villarreal defender Joan Capdevila on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
The Portuguese club revealed that the 33-year-old's contract includes a 20million euro (£17.6m) buy-out clause.
The full-back has won 57 caps for Spain and featured in the victorious Euro 2008 and World Cup 2010 campaigns. He will be expected to fill the void left by Portugal international Fabio Coentrao's 30million euro departure to Real Madrid.
Capdevila has netted 15 goals in 145 appearances for the Yellow Submarine in his four years at the club.
